One of those days

Started the day off wonderful. The goal of the day was to finish the quilting on my houndstooth quilt so the binding could be sewn on at work tomorrow. That goal seemed very reasonable. However, my machine has gotten an attitude and keeps screwing up, breaking thread, bobbin casing turning when it's supposed to be locked in place. OMG! Really I just wanted to be done with this already. I have tried everything I can think of and nothing is working. So as you can tell its time to step away and cut fabric and hope that it gets worked out soon enough. 

I might be threatening to get a new one just have to decide what to get. I want a nice one that I can grow into but that won't cost me a fortune and isn't a piece of crap. 

Any suggestions??

So yesterday I decided to  join the 100 day Hustle. I am so happy to announce that I am already able to mark one off of my list. I just finished my Granny squares quilt and I love the way it came out. The colors are just so bright and cheery. I can't wait to get home and get it in the washer so I can see all the pretty crinkles it is sure to have.

Onto the next one. I finally got all my striped squares all squared up. haha. Now to get them all sewn together.

I can't wait to see how this one turns out. Goal is to finish it this week so I can sew on the binding next weekend at work. 

Hustlin

So today marks 100 days left in the year. Can you believe time has gone by so quickly?? Well I decided to join Kelsey for the 100 day Hustle. The goal is to finish up projects by December 31, 2012. As many as possible! I feel like I have a laundry list of things that must be finished and some I would just like to do so here you go.

All of these are a must happen:

1. Sewing binding onto granny squares quilt.   finished 9/23
2. Baste, quilt, and bind Made in cherry quilt. 
3. Baste, quilt, and bind Plus quilt. 
4. Baste, quilt, and bind Tetris quilt. 
5. Finish sewing houndstooth quilt so I can baste, quilt, and bind. 
6. Sew wienie dog quilt.
7. Sew Link triforce quilt. 
8. Sew skull quilt. 
9. Sew chevron quilt. (not even sure of fabric on this one)
10. Make gift for secret partner in Modernista Homemade swap due 10/22
11. Make gift for secret partner in Modern She made swap due 11/19.

These are a would like to happen (We shall see how that goes):

1. Sew macbook cover for me!
2. Sew fabric baskets for my growing stash pile (must be color coordinated of course)
3. Make keychains for small gifts. 
4. Use some scraps making potholders and other small things for gifts. 

My oh my that is a lot of stuff to try* and accomplish before the end of the year. I don't think I will get all of it finished but I will do my best! One finish a week is the goal!

A little like christmas

I love getting mail. Who doesn't right?? The rush you get from wondering what is in that package. Well this morning I woke up to 2 big boxes on the front porch.

I actually knew what was in these but still so much fun to open. Last weekend hancock fabrics was having 50% off batting. Well since I am crazy enough to try and finish quilts for christmas for everyone I needed lots of batting. 

And here is all is. I can't wait to get started finishing all these quilts. I hope I can pull this off in time. 

Bunch o' blocks

Today has been spent tackling some bee blocks. Here are some pictures for you to enjoy.

She also happens to be in the Liberty and Justice bee with me as well and it just happened to be her month in both bees. Here are the blocks for that bee that I will be mailing to her hopefully today.

Last but not least I completed 2 blocks for mollyjolly in the Star Bee.  Here are the blocks for her. She sent some super cute fabric and I couldn't wait to play with it.

Well there you have it. My bee blocks for september. Now to do some stalking for my modernist homemade kitchen swap. 

Little off course

Well this week didn't quite turn out like I had expected. I had a goal to complete the houndstooth quilt top and finish the granny squares quilt so I could sew on binding at work. That didn't happen. I managed to quilt the granny squares quilt but nothing else got done. I need to square up the blocks for the houndstooth quilt before I can go any further. Maybe if I'm full of energy after my 14hr shift I will try and get the binding ready to be finished tomorrow. I hope everyone else had a good week. I did get a pretty block in the mail from spicedpear for my wardens cross block I requested.



I also received another beautiful block from shimmyblister for the Running with scissors bee.


Thank you ladies so much for the wonderful blocks. I can't wait to put them all together.

It seems like a lot to get done but I have faith I can manage.

One more down

So somehow I managed to finish another quilt top before stuck at work all weekend.

And here it is...

This one came out to be the perfect size for a queen size bed. I love the simplicity of the color palate.

I am now in the middle of a houndstooth quilt top for my future father in law. I'm not sure once I finish this one if I will make it again. I feel as though creating enough of the stripped blocks is gonna drive me crazy. With any luck I will have it done this week.

Goal for the week:
Finish houndstooth quilt
Baste and quilt Granny squares quilt so I can sew on binding this weekend while at work.

Also, I've been wanting to start a mini quilt swap on flickr. Just need to come up with a good name and some rules. Hopefully there will be enough people who want to join. But I am in need of some quilty things to decorate the walls of my sewing room.

And it begins...

I have been crazy busy trying to keep on top of my crazy idea to make everyone their own quilt for christmas. Now I thought this would be a wonderful idea so that my boyfriend and I didn't have to spend lots of money on our families and could still give them something meaningful. I decided this at the end of August. I have 9 quilts to finish by Dec. 24. So far I have 3 tops finished that need to be sandwiched and quilted. Hoping today to finish the top for my brother then there will be another off my list. Needless to say all of my free time is being spend in my sewing room. 

So far we have: 

Granny squares for my future mother in law. 

Made in Cherry quilt for my mother. 

Plus quilt for my brother. This is the one I almost have sewn together. 

This is the layout for a Made in cherry quilt for my new nephew. 

Tetris quilt for my future sister in law. 

The to do list still includes:
Chevron quilt- Dad
Houndstooth quilt- future father in law
Skull quilt- future brother in law
Link triforce (Zelda) quilt- Boyfriend
